Talking to Katy tonight, I mentioned that it was one year ago today that Ben and I arrived in Mountain View, California … completing a 2,400 mile journey across the country to begin our summer as participants in Y Combinator. Now, one year later, I find myself sitting in Mountain View again, working on what I hope will be the next steps for the company that we started. It is fascinating how quickly the year has passed and how much we have gotten accomplished.
I rewarded myself to a few hours of diversion today, traveling along the the California coast (on Highway One), stopping where I felt like stopping, exploring and jotting down thoughts and ideas when I had the notion to do so. It was good to step away from work for a while and allow myself a chance to think and reflect on past events and what is to come. I feel refreshed.
I think I am starting to understand the value and necessity of using a device like a Moleskin instead of trying to take all of my notes digitally. Using a pen and a notebook forces you to step away from computational distraction. I am committing to starting this practice again and making it a required exercise, hoping that it will offer me clarity of mind when I am wrestling with decisions.
I am grateful for today. It was good.
